Its been raining for a couple weeks now. When its not raining the sky is overcast like some kind of alien invasion. Not a good mix of situations for going outside. Getting "wetup" is not high on my list of things to do in these times when catching a bad flu might send you into COVID isolation. Plus one has to be extra careful on the roads because of the potholes, landslides, general chaos that water brings to small island infrastructure. Coming off the hot-hot summer to present day torrential rains is something that feels new every time it happens.
I have been taking a bunch of photos recently - before the rain started - mostly all in black and white. And I am here to report that RAW photos are huge. I do like the extra quality in the new camera brings but as I said before the files are huge. Added to that there are all these settings that I need to worry about before I start taking pictures. But as biggy would say "mo money mo problems".
If I have to sign up for your virtual thing I am simply not going to bother. If there is anything that annoys me is signing up for lists that may magically become subscriptions in the future. I might be transfering my physical world meeting habits into virtual meeting where I would never sign a guestbook unless it was hard-linked to the free food. I like lists for "one-off" things that I am interested in and that I may want to use in the future. But I do not want to marry the products and services that I use. I know this has become the new norm for some people but fts.
Its the first time I saw fish selling on the outskirts of the market but I guess any hustle is a hustle. Pictured below is a woman selling Yam and ground provisions.
When I fill up my 32gb camera SD card I have started to print out a few selected pictures. Having them in a physical form provides another way to look at them and use them. Of course I cant print every picture I take so I print them in 4x6 ($80 JMD per picture) because anything larger is expensive. I take a lot of pictures, not all of them in focus but even with the few that make the cut printing them all is impossible.
Since printing I have noticed that people like HDR pictures even though in my view HDR is an "aggressive" and an "surreal" filter. But since I have learnt this now I will try to remember to take a few HDR pictures when I go out. I should not be surprised with the rise of instagram that people like colourized photos. So far I only found it most effective on clouds. Here are a few exmaples;
Picked up some randoms on amazon again. Actually tried buying used CDs and it turned out pretty good in comparison to buying used CDS in Jamaica. People in Jamaica do not know how to take care of CDs. Out of all the Fiona Apple CDs I got "when the pawn" because of one song. High times is a best of CD that I reluctantly picked up because Jamiroquai's hit songs are spread across so many albums that it was hard to choose one without falling into the trap of buying 10 cds - however you cant go wrong with the disco funk vibe. David Gray's CD I think I had from last year, good songs but awful drum machine beats. Artic Monkeys AM was a group I discovered on youtube, this was a easy pickup because I was already deep into 4 songs - unfortunately I scratched the CD somehow I dont know when. Cage the Elephant was ok being a wildcard pickup, I think I liked 2 songs on the album.
Anonymous123 commented: I buy CDs as well but new. From CD outlet on hwt road back in 2006 time (twin of twinz, Missy Elliott, Biggy Smalls). Now I have to buy online. Amazon double charge once so I buy from Barnes and Noble, artists shopify sites and small label sites, discogs requires paypal which I don't use. I have CDs from Mariah Carey, Toni Braxton, DMX, Kali Uchis, Alina Baraz, Busta Rhymes. Such a shame no CD stores in Jamaica. ... read 1 more
