To switch things up a bit here are some double exposures I took at various points. I discovered this feature on the camera one day during lunch. It basically allows you to take 2 or more pictures and combine them into one final picture using a additive/subtractive blend mode. As if you have a film camera and you reshoot picture over pictures you already took. It is really useful in select situations which I am still discovering.
Clouds are one of those situations mostly because the flat blue sky makes for easy blending. You want to have a clear day with nice big clouds
Merging faces works well in black and white. Not so easy in colour as you will see below.
Shadows are also doable but harder because of course colours. I will kick my black and white spiral evenutally.
I think is 2 or 3 pictures in colour which you can see kinda works but kinda not.
Using parking lines to create impossible pictures is also easy to pull off with this feature.
Last week I discovered that you cannot tie a banana tree to the fence to prevent it from toppling over from strong winds. It appears that you just have to let it fall or koch it with a stick (I had no sticks). Tying it restricts the circulation in its trunk preventing it from growing thicker, taller and also preventing the fruit from becoming bigger. Also it seems that they all share the same root structure which causes other problems.
People have a compelling need to defend their favourite product as if any negative comment about it is a personal attack on them and their supply of cocaine. Often only admitting that the thing they like is not-perfect when a new one comes out or when the tide has shifted. At which point the cycle repeats. Its crazy on the internet, politics and religion etc. Either we want a group hug over this thing or we gather people to help throw stones on this other thing. Tribalism is the new order.
I need to focus on publishing the photos I have in my folder because I have been letting them bake for too long and I am taking new pictures at a rate which has never before been seen. I cant even pick the ones I need to print because I am still sorting through a previous set. I will have to be more selective on what pictures I keep so my sd card doesn't fill up in one month.
One of the questions I get asked is if I ask people permission to take thier pictures. This is one of those Analysis paralysis issues when the decision to do something and the risks are locked together is circular loop. Eitherway I've been doing candid photography for years and it takes practice - I miss more shots than I get. Its impossible to ask everyone for permission and the whole point of these types of photos is that they are candid. Like going into the jungle and asking the birds if you can take thier picture. Jamaicans are culturally suspicious people which makes street photography difficult but no impossible. Taking photos from a moving vehicle is an option. It comes down to navigating a subtle but complicated scene of interactions in a space where photography is not very common even though every one has a phone camera but no one uses as such because phones are for making calls not for taking pictures.
I took some selfies in the bathroom to test out the camera and I didnt realise until now that there is a stray eye lash stuck on my face. My hair line has never been straight so whenever I go to the barber I have to give him/her clear instructions as to not to try the impossible. Learn to love your unfiltered self. And yeah if you pay close attention black and white IS A FILTER but who cares? If you look close you can also see my receding hair line. fml.
